FAQ

How do you get the Pirate Shop token in Fortnite?
Open chests in Battle Royale matches during the Treasure Hunters mini season. Reports point to loot chests, including the skull-and-crossbones treasure chests, as the drop source. There is no quest or purchase route; finding one is pure luck.
How rare is the Pirate Shop token?
Epic has not published a drop rate. A '1 in 700,000 chests' figure is circulating, but it comes from community estimates, not Epic, and outlets that repeat it say it could be higher or lower.
Does the whole squad get the Pirate Shop token?
Multiple reports, including posts verified by dataminers, say every member of your duo, trio or squad receives the token when one player finds it. Insider Gaming still labels this as alleged, so treat it as likely but not officially confirmed.
Can you use the Pirate Shop token on the Battle Pass or for gifting?
No. The in-game terms quoted by several outlets exclude real-money offers, gifting, and pass levels and rewards. You can also claim only one free Sidekick that you do not already own.
When does the 2026 Pirate Shop token expire?
Reports say it must be activated by December 15, 2026, but the exact cutoff time differs between sources. Check the activation screen in your own Item Shop, which shows the deadline in your local time.

What is the Pirate Shop token in Fortnite?

The Pirate Shop token is a rare item that drops from chests in Fortnite’s Treasure Hunters mini season, which launched with v43.00 on November 1, 2026. Once you activate it, you can claim eligible Item Shop cosmetics sold for V-Bucks for free for 14 days. Epic has not published a dedicated news post about it.

The feature surfaced on launch day, when player @snowslept posted a clip of the in-game pop-up. TheGamer quotes that pop-up as saying you can “claim anything sold for V-Bucks in the Fortnite Item Shop for free for 14 days from activation.” The early news coverage we read, including TheGamer and Push Square, is built on that clip and follow-up posts from dataminers on X.

How do you get the Pirate Shop token?

You get the Pirate Shop token by opening chests in Battle Royale during the Treasure Hunters mini season. There is no quest, purchase or code that grants it. Shacknews and Push Square point to the skull-and-crossbones treasure chests, while Gaming Bible says it can spawn in ordinary loot chests. Either way, it is luck.

Shacknews says these chests can spawn anywhere on the map. Insider Gaming suggests busy POIs such as Fortune’s Fort, Lantern Landing and Plunder Port, simply because more chests means more rolls. Beebom reports that ranked lobbies are excluded, which no other source we read confirms.

To use a token after you find it, go to the Item Shop from the lobby, select the Pirate Shop option (“Plunder the Shop”) and choose “Activate Now.” Gaming Bible notes that items are not added automatically; you claim each one yourself. If you want to know when new items rotate in during your window, see our Item Shop reset time guide. Epic says the shop refreshes at around 00:00 GMT.

How rare is the Pirate Shop token? Odds and drop rate

Epic has not published a Pirate Shop token drop rate, chance or odds. Any number you see is a community estimate, not an official figure. We are not going to add our own estimate on top, because the data needed to calculate one (total chests opened, total tokens dropped) is not public.

The figure repeated most often is “1 in 700,000 chests.” TheGamer describes it as a community belief, Insider Gaming says the real number “could be less, or more,” and Push Square traces it to a reader comment. Gaming Bible cites a separate tracker account that counted fewer than 10 reported winners on day one. None of these come from Epic. What is clear is that very few players have found one.

What does the Pirate Shop token unlock?

An activated Pirate Shop token lets you claim eligible cosmetics that are sold for V-Bucks in the Item Shop, at no cost, for 14 days. Reports list skins, back blings, gliders and emotes. Because the shop rotates daily, what you can claim depends on what appears in the shop during your window.

That makes timing matter. If you want a specific item, check today’s Item Shop and the upcoming shop leaks before you activate, and use the shop history to see how often an item tends to return.

What can’t you use the Pirate Shop token on?

The Pirate Shop token does not cover everything. Insider Gaming quotes the in-game terms as excluding real-money offers, gifting, and pass levels and rewards, so the Battle Pass is out. You can claim only one free Sidekick you do not already own, and TheGamer and Beebom say tokens cannot be transferred.

Use Allowed? Source
Item Shop cosmetics sold for V-Bucks Yes In-game pop-up (TheGamer)
Real-money offers and packs No In-game terms (Insider Gaming, VICE)
Gifting items to friends No Push Square, VICE, Insider Gaming
Battle Pass levels and rewards No TheGamer, Gaming Bible
Sidekicks One you do not already own TheGamer, Gaming Bible, VICE
Transferring the token No TheGamer, Beebom

Does the Pirate Shop token work for your whole squad?

Yes, according to most coverage: when one player finds the token, everyone in the duo, trio or squad receives it. TheGamer reports that leakers Shiina and Hypex verified this, and Push Square, Shacknews and VICE say the same. Insider Gaming still calls it “allegedly,” so it is not officially confirmed.

Gaming Bible points out that the drop chance itself is not boosted by a squad. A full squad simply opens more chests per match, which means more chances for someone to hit it.

What are the 2026 and 2027 Pirate Shop tokens, and when do they expire?

One find gives you two separate 14-day windows: one to activate in 2026 and one in 2027. Each is activated on its own through the Item Shop. Reported deadlines are December 15, 2026 for the first token and a 2027 window ending December 15, 2027, but sources disagree on the details.

Detail What reports say
2026 token deadline Insider Gaming and Beebom: activate by December 15, 2026 (no time given). TheGamer: “until the end of 2026.”
Exact 2026 cutoff time Other coverage cites an in-game screen showing an evening-of-December-15 cutoff in the Americas, which is already December 16 in GMT. Not confirmed by Epic.
2027 token window Beebom: January 1 to December 15, 2027. Gaming Bible: “sometime in 2027.”
Length once activated 14 days (in-game pop-up)

Because the cutoff differs by source and by time zone, check the activation screen in your own Item Shop, which shows the deadline for your account, and watch Epic’s channels for any change.
