FAQ

How much does Fortnite cost?
Fortnite Battle Royale and Creative are free to play. Epic says purchases are optional and cosmetic only. Save the World is the exception and needs a paid pack to access.
How much are V-Bucks in 2026?
Since March 19, 2026, Epic's US packs are $8.99 for 800 V-Bucks, $22.99 for 2,400, $36.99 for 4,500 and $89.99 for 12,500. Other regions, currencies and console or mobile stores can differ, so confirm the price in-game.
How do you gift in the Fortnite Item Shop?
Open the in-game Item Shop, pick an item and choose the gift option. You need 2FA enabled, account level 2 or higher, and the friend must have been on your Friends list for at least 2 days. The Web Item Shop cannot send gifts.
How many gifts can you send per day, and can gifts be refunded?
Epic limits gifting to 5 gifts per rolling 24 hours, counted from each sent gift. Epic states that gifts are non-refundable.
Can the Pirate Shop Token be used to gift an item?
Reports say no: the token unlocks an eligible Item Shop item for your own account for 14 days and cannot be used for gifting. Epic has not published an official page on the token yet.

How much does Fortnite cost to play?

Fortnite Battle Royale and Creative cost nothing to download or play. Epic’s Fortnite FAQ says purchases are optional and cosmetic only, so money buys looks, emotes and passes rather than gameplay power. The one paid mode is Save the World, which needs a paid pack to access the campaign.

Everything in the Item Shop is priced in V-Bucks, Fortnite’s in-game currency. You either buy V-Bucks with real money or earn some through the free and paid passes each season. The shop rotates daily: Epic Help says the in-game Item Shop and Webshop refresh at around 00:00 GMT, which our Item Shop reset time guide converts into local time zones. What are Fortnite V-Bucks prices in 2026?

In the US, Epic sells four V-Bucks packs: $8.99 for 800, $22.99 for 2,400, $36.99 for 4,500 and $89.99 for 12,500 V-Bucks. These sizes took effect on March 19, 2026. The dollar prices did not change, but each pack now contains fewer V-Bucks than before.

Epic announced the change on fortnite.com on March 10, 2026, citing higher running costs. Video Games Chronicle reported the same table on the same day.

Pack price (USD) Before March 19, 2026 From March 19, 2026
$8.99 1,000 V-Bucks 800 V-Bucks
$22.99 2,800 V-Bucks 2,400 V-Bucks
$36.99 5,000 V-Bucks 4,500 V-Bucks
$89.99 13,500 V-Bucks 12,500 V-Bucks
Exact-amount top-up (per 50) about $0.49–$0.50 (reports differ) $0.99

This explains why you will find conflicting numbers online. Older guides that say “1,000 V-Bucks for $8.99” (or an even older sticker price) describe the pricing before March 2026. They are not current.

Epic also says that buying V-Bucks through its own payment system on PC, mobile or web earns 20% back in Epic Rewards. Fortnite gift cards bought before the change still redeem at their printed value. The same announcement cut the Battle Pass from 1,000 to 800 V-Bucks.

How much do skins cost in the Fortnite Item Shop?

Each Item Shop listing shows its own V-Bucks price. Outfits usually cost more than emotes, back blings, pickaxes or wraps, and bundles usually cost less than buying the same items one by one. Epic does not publish a fixed price table by rarity, so this page lists no per-rarity numbers.

Since the March 2026 change, the most reliable method is to check the price on the shop tile and compare it with your balance. The real-money cost of an item depends on which pack you bought. Larger packs give more V-Bucks per dollar. To see how often an item has returned, and roughly when to expect it again, use our Fortnite shop history guide.

Epic’s FAQ says cosmetics bought with V-Bucks can be cancelled until you use the item in a match or 24 hours pass, whichever comes first. Gifts are a separate case and follow different rules (see below).

How do you gift items in the Fortnite shop?

To gift in Fortnite, open the in-game Item Shop, select an item, and choose the gift option for a friend. Epic requires two-factor authentication (2FA), an account at level 2 or higher, and a recipient who has been on your Friends list for at least 2 days. The Web Item Shop cannot send gifts. It only buys for your own account.

Epic Help lists these rules for Fortnite gifting:

Rule What Epic says
Security Two-factor authentication must be enabled
Account level Level 2 or higher
Friendship Recipient on your Friends list for at least 2 days
Daily limit 5 gifts per 24 hours, based on the time of each sent gift
Refunds All gifts are non-refundable
Not giftable V-Bucks, Battle Pass levels, passes bought with V-Bucks
Already owned The gift fails if the recipient already owns the item
Platforms listed Android, PC, PlayStation, Switch and Xbox
Where to send In-game Item Shop only, not the Web Item Shop

The friend has to log in to receive the gift. Gifts cannot be refunded, so check the item and the recipient’s name before you confirm. You can’t send V-Bucks directly, but a Fortnite gift card does that job. Gift cards are tied to an account region, and Epic notes that a card fails to redeem if the region doesn’t match.

Can the Pirate Shop Token be used for gifting?

According to media reports, it can’t. The Pirate Shop Token is a rare drop added in the Treasure Hunters mini season (v43.00). It reportedly unlocks one eligible Item Shop cosmetic for free for 14 days, for your own account only, and cannot be sent as a gift. Epic has not published an official page about the token.

Because nothing official exists yet, treat the 14-day duration and the gifting restriction as unconfirmed. We track updates on the Pirate Shop Token page. If you’re planning purchases around upcoming items, our Fortnite shop tomorrow leaks page collects what is expected next, and Fortnite shop codes explains how Support-a-Creator codes work at checkout.

What is still not confirmed?

  • Regional and platform pack prices. Epic’s announcement and press coverage give US dollar figures. Other currencies and console or mobile stores are not listed here, so check them in-game.
  • The pre-change exact-amount price. Reports give it as $0.49 or $0.50 per 50 V-Bucks. Both agree it is now $0.99.
  • The Pirate Shop Token. Its duration, drop rate and gifting restriction come from media reports, not from Epic.
  • Per-rarity skin prices. Epic publishes no official rarity price table, so we don’t list one.
